After removal of the lower part of the back wall of a house, one method of supporting the top part is to use a portal frame. The weight of the wall above is taken by the top steel beam, transferred to the two steel columns, {only one is visible} and then taken to a reinforced concrete base and thence into the soil. If you saw the house now, you would not know what changes were made, except all the lower part of the back wall is window. The portal frame puts back the loss of stiffness incurred with removal of the brick at lower level.
